12 Top Healthcare Conferences to Attend in 2020

14 min read

Each year there are countless conferences and events focused on healthcare management and technology, but with so many options, it can be difficult to pick the right ones for your specific purposes.

Top healthcare conferences bring together the best and brightest in the industry to build connections, learn about new topics, and examine new opportunities.

Participate with Purpose and Perspective

From specialized seminars to massive meet-ups, 2020’s lineup of healthcare events is sure to cover a lot of ground – both metaphorically and literally. But before you grab your passport and head out the door, you’ll want to read this. Each event is focused on a different realm within the wide world of healthcare and serves different professional advancement objectives.

Rather than schlepping yourself around the country and enduring hours of airplane agony only to find you’ve wasted your time and your company's budget, it’s best to research the conference beforehand and seek out honest feedback from past attendees.

As a prerequisite to registering, you should have a clear idea of what your event objective is and plot out a few specific ways that you can meet or draw nearer to that goal. Whether it’s networking, vendor selection, tooling, strategy refinement, education, training, business development, etc., you should know what you intend to gain and how you intend to gain it from each event you attend.

With that in mind, please find below my picks for the industry’s top healthcare conferences heading into 2020:

Year-Round Healthcare Events

Healthcare Innovation Summits & Healthcare Innovation Cybersecurity Forums

Multiple Venues.

Throughout 2020, Healthcare Innovation is hosting eleven different regional events as part of its Summit Series. While the Forum events will obviously focus on cybersecurity, the Summit events will more generally cover topics to do with health IT challenges and best practices. Both, are sure to facilitate quality networking.

The summits are being held in locations strategically spaced throughout the United States so that HIT and HTM professionals can attend without needing to venture too far from home. Early bird pricing is also very reasonable, starting at $195 (down from the normal $395). So if you're looking to professionally grow and advance — and really who isn't?! — you have no excuse for not attending at least one of these events.

Events will be held in the following locales:

CyberMDX will be at the Southern California and Northeast events and we'd love too see you there!

Q1 Healthcare Events

Westin Boston Waterfront Hotel.

TEDMED is a little different from your standard industry event fare. The event offers attendees group mindfulness and workout sessions, workshops, lectures, and discussions all designed to foment "an immersive community experience". The off the beaten path approach is very much deliberate, as TEDMED endeavors to give attendees "the time and space to unplug from your day-to-day routine, inspiring new ways to approach the challenges we face in health and medicine today."

At TEDMED, event participants include public health leaders, clinicians, researchers, scientists, and influencers. The theme for TEDMED 2020 is "Make Way for Wonder". Attendees can expect a diverse lineup of speakers with broad perspectives and fresh ideas in typical TED Talks fashion.

As might be expected from such a high-end experiential event, the price of admission is steep. The registration fee is $4,950, though partial scholarships can applied for to bring the price down to $2,475. To learn more, visit TEDMED's website.

A series of workshops and symposia featuring keynote speakers (including celebrities and politicians, as well as business ,and industry bigwigs) will cover topics ranging from clinical engagement to entrepreneurship. Organized by Cyber Security Hub (a division of IQPC), CISO Healthcare Exchange bills itself as "three days of networking, sharing & benchmarking" for senior healthcare information and security professionals. CISO Healthcare Exchange is approved and endorsed by (ISC)2 and CPE credits will automatically be credited to your member account within 4-6 weeks.

This event is meant to stand out from the pack on the basis of:

This event also boasts the only cadre of speakers that can give HIMSS a run for its money in terms of sheer name power. Scratch that, with Magic Johnson slated to speak this year, we have to conclude that at least as far as 2020 is concerned Becker's has HIMSS beat.

This year's conference is said to focus, among other things, on topics such as nursing informatics, telemedicine & virtual care, the role of analytics in clinical innovation, and clinical documentation. Healthcare Security Summit: New York

Jun. 23.
Venue TBD.
New York, NY.

Organized by Information Security Media Group (iSMG), the NYC based Healthcare Security Summit is an event worth attending. The networking opportunities at iSMG events are usually pretty good, but when it comes to  the Healthcare Security Summit the real draw is the speakers.

Whereas other events with sessions that tend to take a tactical, procedural, and organizational approach to their subject matter, Healthcare Security Summit often comes at topics from more of a big-picture, policy perspective. This is not only reflected in the chosen speakers themselves but in the topics of their addresses as well.

Some 2020 session examples include:

Event registration costs $725 and can is available here.

Q3 Healthcare Events

CIO Healthcare Summit

Jul. 15.
Venue to be determined.
New York, NY.

A “signature” event for CDM Media, the CIO Healthcare Summit is focused on bringing together industry executives and IT professionals to explore the HITECH Act, specifically meaningful use, adoption of electronic health records software and health tech management. Intended to be an engaging educational experience, attendees will have the opportunity to participate in in-depth discussions about ongoing changes in the healthcare industry regarding both technology and public policy. The summit also places emphasis on networking opportunities and collaboration among attendees.

This one-day event gathers about 50 C Suite-level executives in an intimate and collaborative environment, giving attendees a dual opportunity to learn and network.

The event's agenda can be found here and interested parties can register on the event website. A call for speakers is also underway.

InfoSec Healthcare Connect

Aug. 17 –19
JW Marriott Marquis.
Miami, FL.

An invite-only forum for senior-level information and cybersecurity executives organized by Worldwide Business Research, InfoSec Healthcare Connect is in many ways a CISO Healthcare Exchange doppelgänger.

If you attended CISO Healthcare Exchange and loved it, you'll probably want to attend InfoSec Healthcare Connect as well. If you would  have liked to attend CISO Healthcare Exchange but couldn't due to a scheduling conflict, you'll probably want to attend InfoSec Healthcare Connect.

You can download the event agenda here and request and invitation here.

Enterprise World & Enfuse 2020

Sep. 29–Oct. 1.
The Venetian Resort.
Las Vegas, NV.

Though not strictly speak healthcare events, these conferences one the leading enterprise information management event and the other the largest digital investigation and security event are still super relevant under any circumstance. Under the particular circumstances of 2020, when Enterprise World and Enfuse are being combined into a single mega-event, they definitely warrant a spot on your event calendar.

The event promises to teach you "how to harness your mountains of underutilized information and ride the next wave of transformation in productivity and growth".

A call for presenters is still open for both conferences, so if you'd like to get out in front of your peers as a thought leader, consider applying to speak on Enterprise Information Management or Digital investigation and security. Early bird registration starts at $695 and can be submitted here.

Q4 Healthcare Events

The American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA) is celebrating 92 years with a conference focused on data privacy, cybersecurity and healthcare IT management. There will also be discussion on electronic health record lessons learned, along with industry updates.

Attendees can review new healthcare IT solutions on display in the exhibit hall. Of course, it wouldn't be a conference without networking events; attendees can expect a fair amount of time to engage with their colleagues and make connections.

MedFuse 2020

Oct. 22.
Minneapolis Convention Center.
Minneapolis, MN.

Attracting more than 5,000 attendees and focusing more acutely than other events on the medical device space, MedFuse is the midwest's longest-running medtech show. In the interest of helping attendees make the most of their time, the 2020 version of MedFuse includes three separate participant tracks Future Devices, Health Informatics, and Future Healthcare Solutions.

Uniting innovators from across the industry, when it comes to sourcing medical technology suppliers and partners, MedFuse is a must-attend.

Another attractive aspect of this event is it's affordability. Attendance is free for medical practitioners while early bird registration starts at only $10 for the rest of us. There is also an open call for speakers.

CHIME20 Fall CIO Forum

Nov. 9–12.
JW Marriott San Antonio Hill Country.
San Antonio, TX.

Organized by the College of Healthcare Information Management Executives — an association devoted to the  professional betterment of top healthcare IT leaders the CHIME20 Fall CIO Forum's theme is "Leadership From the Edge". Registration is not yet open for the event and the agenda is still in development — with CHIME members being invited to propose speaking and track session ideas.

Even without knowing precisely what will be on the agenda though, we can say with certainty that you won't want to miss the CHIME20 Fall CIO Forum. CHIME events never fail to impress and consistently rank among the top healthcare conferences instilling within their participants an improved skill set and broader knowledge base. If this year's Fall Forum is anything like last year's, programming will be designed very deliberately to foster meaningful interactions between the attendees — providing the time, context, and foil for conversations about best practices, professional development, collaboration opportunities, and strategic imperatives.

Attendees will also be eligible to earn up to 18 CEU credits.

RSNA 2020

Nov. 29–Dec 4.
McCormick Place.
Chicago, IL.

For over a hundred years, the Radiological Society of North America has been hosting a Scientific Assembly and Annual Meeting. Known simply by the society's acronym, RSNA, the annual event has evolved over the years to become a veritable pilgrimage not just for radiologists but for HTM professionals and healthcare administrators more generally.

By most measures, the multi-day event is the industry's largest. With a virtual version of the assembly held in parallel to the physical event, the event typically welcomes over 50,000 participants each year.

With "Human Insight/Visionary Medicine" as the theme for RSNA 2020, the event will surely drive the conversation around medical innovation in new and interesting directions.

If you have an interest in contributing to the event's programming, you may apply here. While general registration is not yet open, you can sign up for a virtual meeting here. (Adding to the appeal is the fact that virtual meetings qualify for CME credits.)

Healthcare Security Forum

Dec. 7 –8
Venue TBD.
Location TBD.

Another HIMSS event, the Healthcare Security Forum is, as you might expect from the name, devoted specifically to healthcare cybersecurity. There still isn't a lot of information available on the 2020 event, but if past incarnations are any indication, it will have a killer lineup of speakers, with incredible networking opportunities, and programming laser focused on studying and adopting security best practices.

When more information is made available on the event agenda and registration is opened to the public, you should be able to find it here.
